Entry criteria

Competition dates – Entries to the Competition open at 9am on Monday 30th November and close at 11.59pm on Friday 31st January 2021. These dates are subject to change by notice by Insight38.

Problem to be solved – To enter the Competition entrants need to state their business or organisational problem they are looking to solve and they you believe it can be solved using data.

Each person may only enter the Competition once.

State of Competition – The Competition is held in the state of Victoria for entrants whose primary place of business is in Victoria.

Organisation in operation – This Competition is intended for organisations that are already in business or operating.

Organisation types – Any of the following organisations are eligible to enter: Sole traders, Pty Ltd companies, business partnerships, not-for-profit organisations, schools, community groups and clubs.

Entrants agree to be contacted by Insight38 – By entering the Competition entrants agree to be contacted by Insight38 either as part of the Competition assessment process, or within 12 months of the Competition end date to review any data needs the entrant organisation may have which could be fulfilled by Insight38 via a commercial arrangement.


Judging the winner

Game of skill – The Competition is a game of skill and not a game of chance.

Assessment criteria – In assessing submissions Insight38 will take the following attributes into consideration:

  1. Magnitude of the problem to be solved
  2. Suitability of the problem to being solved using data
  3. Positive impact of solving the problem to the organisation’s customers/members/stakeholders/employees
  4. Any other factors raised by Competition entrants in their submissions

Submissions judged by – Insight38’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer form the judging panel.

Winner announced – The Competition winner will be announced via MRC social channels and the MRC website on Friday 21st February. The winner will also be listed on the Insight38 website for a minimum of 30 days from the date of announcement.

Winner declines prize – In the event the winner declines the prize, the prize will be awarded to the entrant whose submission was ranked second by the judging panel.


The prize

Prize not redeemable for cash – The $25k prize is not redeemable for cash.

Prize non-transferable – The $25k prize cannot be assigned or transferred to another person or organisation.

The winner should consider any tax or accounting implications of receiving the prize.

Insight38 Agreement – The winning organisation will be required to sign Insight38’s standard agreement to cover the work to be performed.

Scope of work - The scope of work to be performed in the 150 hours will be agreed between Insight38 and the winner, and documented in the Insight38 standard agreement to be signed by both parties.

Technology platform – The data work performed by Insight38 will reside on the Insight38 data platform, hosted on Microsoft Azure data centres in Australia. The Insight38 data platform is an enterprise grade technology infrastructure environment.

Remote working – The work will be performed under a remote working model using a range of modern collaboration tools and techniques: e.g. Zoom video conference, Trello activity boards, email, prototyping, showcasing, regular stand up calls.

Best results – The winning organisation will receive the best results by making their key team members available and working closely with Insight38 team members. This will ensure the solution best fits the problem and will also allow the winning organisation to get the most value from the prize.

Hours – The prize approximately equates to 150 hours of work to be performed by Insight38 team members. The work will be performed over a period of 3-4 months from commencement.

Data hosting costs – For the period of time during which Insight38 is delivering the solution to the winning organisation Microsoft Azure data hosting costs will be borne by Insight38.

3rd party costs – The prize is not redeemable for payment of any 3rd party fees or costs associated with the project. Any 3rd party costs are payable by the winning organisation.


General

Entrants agree to be contacted by Insight38 – By entering the Competition entrants agree to be contacted by Insight38 either as part of the Competition assessment process, or within 12 months of the Competition end date to review any data needs the entrant organisation may have which could be fulfilled by Insight38 in a commercial arrangement.

Neither Insight38 nor Melbourne Racing Club accepts any responsibility for any variation to the prize. To the extent permitted by law:

  1. No representations or warranties are given as to the suitability of the prize; and
  2. No compensation will be payable if, for any reason, a winner is unable to use the prize as stated.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, entrants release and will release Insight38 and Melbourne Racing Club from all claims that the entrant may have or may have had but for this release arising from or in connection with the entrant's participation in the Competition (including the prizes) and will indemnify and will keep indemnified Insight38 and Melbourne Racing Club in respect of any claim by any person arising as a result of or in connection with the entrant's participation in the Competition (including the prizes).
